Emergency Relief  (ER)

Sally Miller

Emergency Relief is an Australian Government initiative and forms part of the Financial Wellbeing and Capability (FWC) Activity . Emergency Relief is funded by the Australian Department of Social Services.

The objective of the FWC is to build financial resilience and well-being among those most at risk of financial and social exclusion and disadvantage; by improving their financial capacity and helping them deal with their immediate needs in a way that maintains the dignity of the individual and encourages self-reliance.

There are many reasons why an individual or family could suddenly find themselves in financial crises, the sudden loss of a job or reduction in employment hours, an unexpected illness, a death in the family, are all examples of how this can suddenly happen.  The role of the Emergency Relief Worker is to assess an applicant's individual circumstances and determine whether the monies sought, will stabilise the situation over the longer term.

GCYS works collaboratively with a range of service providers in administering ER, ensuring that all eligible Gold Coast residents have access, no matter which part of the Gold Coast they live in.

If you think you may be eligible to make an application and are already working with a service, then please speak with your service worker about making an application on your behalf.

If you are not already working with a service and want some advice on whether or not you would be eligible to make application, please do not hesitate to call the ER Worker on 5572 0400 to discuss your situation.

ER is open to all age groups and not just young people.

Please Note: Making an application is no guarantee that a payment will be approved.
